Week 10

Despite being violent and gory, the trailer for Fallen Angel contained all the elements necessary to make it a good animation. A good use of a color theme, appropriate sound effects, a variety of well chosen camera angles, and other such elements were all present in this movie. The story is simple, as the movie is only a trailer; a gunfight taking place in a post apocalyptic LA.

The color scheme consisted of mainly pale reds, oranges, and browns, and over the background of many of the shots, one of these colors is overlaid on the scenery, looking like a haze. The pale colors and images of ruined buildings and old beat up cars work well for creating the mood of a post apocalyptic landscape.

The sounds used in the movie are what you’d expect to hear in this kind of environment. There are ambient sounds of fighting off in the background as well as the sound effects that fit well with the actions onscreen. There is a small amount of dialogue in this movie between some soldiers, and it fits in well because of the way it sounds like its coming through a radio.

One of the things this movie does extremely well are the camera angles, camera movements, and the transitions. The opening sequence before the title is an excellent example. The camera pans over a several different backgrounds, from different angles, and transition with fades between these shots. The first two shots show a desolate road and then an abandoned gas station, followed by a close up of wind flipping the pages of a book that’s sitting on a desk in front of a window. When the first action shows up on screen, there are many other different shots that were used, and used to great effect.
